PETERSEN MEDIA- Leading the early laps during Saturday afternoon’s feature at Stockton Dirt Track, Andy Forsberg and F&F Racing would open their season with a third place finish despite having engine issues coming to the checkered flag.

“It was the first race of the season and naturally we had some opening night bugs to work through both on and off the track,” Andy Forsberg said with a smile. “I had some rust to shake off and that showed with a heat race spin, but overall things went well until something went south under the hood on the last lap.”

Lining up on the front row of his first heat race Saturday, Forsberg would get the jump aboard the Econo Lube-n-Tune and Brakes/Geico Local Office/PitStopUSA backed No. x1 entry. Despite being challenged by Willie Croft late, Forsberg would grab the win, which would be crucial for nightly points.

From the last row of his second heat, Forsberg would actually lose the handle on his machine in the closing laps and spin to a stop in turn four. Able to rally the best he could, as a sixth place finish made him the last eligible car for the redraw.

With a little luck on his side, the two-pill put him on the front row of the 30-lap feature event. Leading the first lap before the caution flew, Forsberg would lead the next two circuits before the race’s final caution was needed on lap three.

The restart would see Tony Gualda beat him into turns one and two, and Forsberg would spend the duration of the race giving chase. Trying a little of everything, running the top, rolling the bottom, and even trying to float the middle of the track, Forsberg could not seem to reel in the leader.

Mired by lapped cars late in the race, Forsberg would feel pressure from Ryan Bernal for second at times but would continue to hold the spot.

With the white flag waiving, Forsberg would begin to lose power in his machine, but was still able to hang on and claim the final spot on the podium with the waiving of the checkered flag.

“We kind of had our struggles last year on the bigger tracks, so it was a good test for us to try and find something that works,” Forsberg noted.  “It is definitely a bummer to have issues at the end of our night, but my guys did a great job all night long and I am looking forward to what 2019 has in store.”

F&F Racing and Andy Forsberg would like to thank Econo Lube-n-Tune and Brakes, Geico Local Office, PitStopUSA, Lucas Oil, Pacific Highway Rentals, Autism Awareness, FVP, and CRV Carbon Solutions for their support in 2019.
