PETERSEN MEDIA- A tough month of April for Andy Forsberg and F&F Racing quickly became an afterthought as the Auburn, CA driver opened May up by claiming his 60th career feature event win at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night.
“It was a really good night, and it is always good to cap things off in victory lane,” Andy Forsberg said. “In the feature things weren’t going my way early, but then they started too and we were able to make up some ground and get the lead late.”
Timing the Econo Lube-n-Tune & Brakes/Geico Local Office/PitStopUSA backed NO. x1 machine in second fastest in qualifying time trials, Forsberg would turn in an impressive showing in his heat race where he would advance from fourth to pick up the win.
Moving into the nightly redraw, Forsberg would find himself with the eighth pill, but would eventually grid the field from the seventh spot with another competitor late to the draw.
When the green flag dropped, Forsberg would get off to a bit of a slow start, though he would continue to run inside the Top-10. A late 11 restart would be just what the Auburn, CA driver needed as he would make some serious headway and jump up to fourth after restarting eighth.
Restarting from fourth on a lap 13 restart, Forsberg would get the best of Jimmy Trulli before getting under Kalib Henry to take over the runner up position on the 15th lap as he began to chase after Tony Gualda.
With five laps to go Forsberg would nail another restart as he would get by Gualda to take command of the race just before the yellow flew one lap later. Going back to green for the final time, Forbserg would not be denied as he would lead the rest of the way to claim his 60th career win at Placerville Speedway, and his second of the season at the track he calls home.
“I had a bunch of restarts starting on the outside, and that is really where I wanted to be and it helped us move up,” Forsberg said. “I am happy with night, F&F is happy with the night, and hopefully all of our partners are happy with the night.”
