Andy Forsberg Charges to 2nd at Adobe Cup

PETERSEN MEDIA: Struggling in the early parts of Saturday’s Adobe Cup at Petaluma Speedway with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, Andy Forsberg and the PHR Racing team never wavered and came alive in the feature event as the reigning SCCT champion charged from 15th to 2nd.

“The racetrack was how I like it on Saturday night, and for some reason we chased our tail until the feature event,” Andy Forsberg said. “We weren’t very good in hot laps, we didn’t qualify well, and we struggled in our heat. We kept going over things, and did make some changes before the feature, but we don’t really know why we were so bad early in the night. We did have some help in the feature, but it was nice to have things fall in our lap for a change.”

With 24 cars checked in for the 12th Adobe Cup in Petaluma, CA sanctioned by the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, Forsberg timed the Meridian Cameras/Pacific Highway Rentals/Wilkie Masonry backed No. 92 in fourth fastest in his qualifying flight.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Forsberg continued to search for speed as his fourth-place finish put him in the 15th starting spot for the $5,000-to-win, 35-lap feature event.

As the team continued to make changes prior to the feature, Forsberg picked up a couple of laps in the opening two laps as he was in 12th on the third lap. Moving into 11th, Forsberg was able to move into 10th as the race clicked of an extended green flag run as the leaders quickly got through traffic.

With the races first caution coming on the 15th circuit, Forsberg used the ensuring restart to his advantage as he jumped into seventh. Running in seventh until the caution again flew on the 21st lap, a couple of things happened in front of the Auburn, CA driver and he was soon in fourth when the race resumed.

On the fast surface, Forsberg continued to run in fourth as the laps clicked off. With Justyn Cox slipping back through the field with fuel pick up issues, Forsberg moved into third with two to go, and then was able to beat Willie Croft the checkered flag in a drag race off of fourth to cap off a solid run from 15th to second.

“Things went our way, and with how much things have not gone our way as of late we will take it,” Andy Forsberg added. “We definitely were much improved in the feature event than we were all night, so that was also a positive.”

Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Wilkie Masonry, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, Western Featherlite, GP Development, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-33, Wins-4, Top 5’s-13, Top 10’s-17

ON TAP: Forsberg will be in action on Saturday night at Marysville Raceway for the Gold Fever Sprint Car Spectacular.
