Andy Forsberg Opens 2023 Season With Runner Up Result at Toller Memorial

PETERSEN MEDIA: Unsettled weather across Northern CA has delayed the start to the 2023 season, but Marysville Raceway gambled on Friday night, and it paid off. Making the last-minute trip to the track, Andy Forsberg brough his 2023 season to life with a second place finish.

“With all of the rain in the area, Dennis Gage and Marysville Raceway decided on Thursday morning to run a race on Friday with all of this wild weather, and we decided to make the trip and support,” Andy Forsberg said. “We had a good night, but when you put Tanner Carrick on the pole, it is tough sledding.”

Turning his first competitive laps of the year during time trials on Friday night, the Auburn, CA driver timed the Meridian Cameras/Pacific Highway Rentals/Wilkie Masonry backed No. 92 in fastest overall in qualifications.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, ‘Mr. Excitement’ had his elbows up as he carved his way around the ¼ mile bullring that was in excellent condition despite the wrath of recent weather.

Working his way up to a second-place finish in heat race competition, Forsberg was eligible for the redraw where the redraw put him in the second row of the 25-lap feature event.

When the race came to life, Forsberg quickly set his sights on early leader, Tanner Carrick aboard the PCH Racing entry, as the race was quickly slowed for the lone caution of the night on the second circuit.

Back underway, Forsberg resumed his pursuit of Carrick as he clicked off laps while running in the second position. As the leaders got into traffic, Forsberg would close in on Carrick, but Carrick was able to get by traffic himself with no issues.

Amidst a torrid 22-lap green flag run to the finish, Forsberg capped his season opener off with a second-place finish.

“Kudos to MRP on getting the race in last minutes,” Forsberg said. “We’re not really sure how much racing we will get to do the next few weeks with the way the forecast has been, so we will continue to watch it, and try to go race where it’s dry.”

Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Wilkie Masonry, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, Western Featherlite, GP Development, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-1, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-1

ON TAP: Forsberg will watch the weather this week with his two options for racing being either back at Marysville Raceway on Saturday or at Kings Speedway in Hanford, CA on Saturday.
