PETERSEN MEDIA: Closing out the 2023 season on the podium back in November, Andy Forsberg opened 2024 back on the podium as he finished second on Saturday night at the Toller Memorial in Marysville, CA.
“It was great to get back to racing, and great to run a race in honor of the Toller family who were so instrumental in racing at Marysville back in the day as well as at Grass Valley Speedway,’ Forsberg said. “We had a really smooth night, but Tanner Carrick just got the better of us early in the ‘A’, and we ran second.”
With 16 cars making the late February call to kick off their 2024 seasons, Forsberg got off to a quick start as he timed the Meridian Cameras/Pacific Highway Rentals/Wilkie Masonry backed No. 92 in third fastest in qualifying time trials.
Finishing fourth in his heat race, the Auburn, CA driver earned a berth in the redraw based on his qualifying efforts, and with Lady Luck on his side, Forsberg drew the two pill and was on the front row for the 30-lap feature event.
On a very hooked up racing surface after a wet couple of weeks leading up to the race, Forsberg jumped out to the early lead as the top lane dominated the night.
Out front, Forsberg led the opening two laps while working the high side, but felt pressure from second running Tanner Carrick as he showed Forsberg a nose on the bottom lane.
Moving down to protect the race lead, Forsberg opened the high-side up and Carrick was able to use his momentum to sail around the outside and power his way into the race lead.
Back in second, Forsberg continued to stick with the leader, but with passing tough on this night, the Auburn, CA driver settled for second when the checkered flag was displayed to the field.
“Aside from losing the lead, it was a good opener with our engine running well, the car feeling good, and not falling out of the seat as a driver,’ Forsberg added. “Marysville did a great job to the race in despite all the rain we have had in the last few weeks, and now were cross our fingers the forecast changes for this weekend’s Silver Cup.”
Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Wilkie Masonry, Western Traffic Supply, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, FK Rod Ends, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, Western Featherlite, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races-1, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-1
ON TAP: Forsberg is scheduled to return to action this Friday and Saturday night in Chico, CA for the Silver Cup.
