PETERSEN MEDIA: Since seemingly shaking his bad luck away back on May 11th, Andy Forsberg has been on a roll the last two weekends as he again had another strong weekend that saw him finish sixth with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday in Marysville, CA and third during an unsanctioned 410ci race at Silver Dollar Speedway.
“We have been really good the last few weeks, and we seemingly have put a lot of the dumb stuff behind us,” Andy Forsberg said. “Saturday night was a wild night with weird stuff happening all over. Unfortunately, we got collected, had to make a couple trips to the work area and managed to finish sixth.”
39 cars were on hand with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour as the series took part in the annual Mel and Marlyn Hall Memorial, an event that is special to Forsberg for a multitude of reasons.
Timing the Meridian Cameras/Pacific Highway Rentals/Oroville Tax backed No. 92 in fifth fastest in his qualifying flight, the Auburn, CA driver lined up on the front row of his heat race.
With the inside lane being preferred in all four heats on this night, Forsberg slipped back to finish third. Though it transferred him into the feature event, it kept him out of the Dash and lined him up in the sixth row of the feature event.
The opening laps of the feature event were extremely chaotic as numerous yellows flew in the first three laps. Unfortunately for Forsberg, a lap three caution saw him get collected and a little damage forced him into the work area.
Restarting from the back of the pack, Forsberg was able to make up ground when the green was out. Still a couple more stoppages gave him a few spots the easy way, the Auburn, CA driver worked his way back up to finish sixth when all was said and done.
Making the short trip north to Silver Dollar Speedway on Sunday night to take part in the annual Silver Dollar Fair Race, 25 410ci powered cars checked in to compete in front of a capacity crowd.
Timing in 11th fastest in time trials, Forsberg lined up in the second row of his heat race. With the front row starters getting together on the first attempted start, Forsberg moved up to the front row himself on the second attempted start and settled into second.
Finishing in the runner up position, the Auburn, CA driver earned a spot in the redraw where the four pill placed him in the second row for the 30-lap main event.
With the front row again having issues when the feature event came to life, Forsberg was fortunate again as he found himself on the front row for the second attempted start.
Getting the jump, Forsberg powered into the lead and led the first lap only to see the caution quickly fly and bring the field back together.
The next restart did not go well for ‘Mr Excitement as he slipped back to third before he briefly reclaimed second on the fourth lap. A gaggle of cars battling saw Forsberg shuffle back to fourth before working his way into third at the 15th lap.
Making a couple of late bids for second, Forsberg was unable to make any of his advances stick as he capped his weekend off with a third-place finish.
“This is probably one of my favorite weekends of the year,” Andy Forsberg said. “I always enjoy running the race in honor or Mel and Marlyn Hall, and the fair race is always a blast with how many people show up and then we get the chance to visit the fair post race. Thanks to my guys for continuing to work hard, it’s now Bradway week.”
Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Oroville Tax, Wilkie Masonry, Western Traffic Supply, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, FK Rod Ends, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, Western Featherlite, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.
