Andy Forsberg Second with SCCT To Open Gold Cup; Pleased with 410ci Progress

PETERSEN MEDIA: For the last month, Andy Forsberg has had a fast race car and found himself up front battling for wins, however he didn’t have anything to show for his efforts. Wednesday night, Forsberg again found himself in the hunt to open The Gold Cup Race of Champions as he capped the night off with a second place finish.
“Wednesday night was what our race team needed,” Andy Forsberg said. “We have been fast and in the hunt every night out as of late, but something has happened that took us out. 2nd isn’t exactly where we want to be, but it was a good way to open up a busy week.”
With 55 cars in the pit area to open the big week up, Forsberg timed the Meridian Cameras/Pacific Highway Rentals/Wilkie Masonry backed No. 92 in second quickest in his group.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Forsberg had his elbows up on a surface that offered up a ton of speed as well as a couple of rough patches. Wiring the field, Forsberg picked up the win and locked into the High Sierra Industries Dash which he also went on to win.
By way of the Dash win, Forsberg led the field to green in the big $6900-to-win feature event with last year’s event winner, Shane Golobic right behind him.
When the green lights flashed on, Forsberg jumped out to a strong advantage only to see a pair of yellow and red flags hinder the opening stages of the race.
Once the action got into a flow, Forsberg continued to lead the way, however Golobic shadowed his every move. On the sixth lap, Golobic got under Forsberg in the first and second turn, and Forsberg turned into the hunter.
Able to close in on Golobic a few times as he got held up in traffic, Forsberg then saw Golobic get away as he ran into similar issues. Never quite able to get back to him to make a bid for the top spot, Forsberg capped Wednesday off with a second-place finish.
Right back in action on Thursday night with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series, the Auburn, CA driver timed in 17th fastest in time trials and then went on to win his heat race.
Locking into his preliminary night feature event, Forsberg took the green flag from the 13th starting position, but wasn’t able to mount a charge through the field.
In fact, ‘AF’ lost a few positions as he ended his night back in 16th.
Making the decision to put their 410ci in the car they ran on Wednesday night, Forsberg was instantly happy with the change on Saturday as he charged form seventh to fourth in his heat race to lock into the Gold Cup Race of Champions feature event.
While he ultimately ended up enduring some damage that caused him to pull off the track early in the ‘A’, he was happy with the feel and how the night went compared to Thursday.
“We didn’t get to run the 410ci as much as we hoped heading into this week, so we did still have some question marks,” Forsberg said. “We finally made the decision to make a big change with what we had been doing, and it paid off, and has us excited for Saturday night in Placerville, CA.”
Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Wilkie Masonry, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, Western Featherlite, GP Development, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.
