Andy Forsberg Sixth at Dave Bradway Jr Memorial Opener

PETERSEN MEDIA: Andy Forsberg put the PHR Racing No. 92 in great spots all night at Placerville Speedway on Friday night. Running in the top-three most of the race, Forsberg capped the Sprint Car Challenge Tour portion of the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial off with a sixth-place finish, before issues ended his night early on Saturday.

“Friday night we were pretty good, we were hanging with Justin Sanders early, then we he bobbled I was right behind him and had to lift briefly and Dominic Scelzi got by us both,” Andy Forsberg said. “We still ran in second but towards the end of the race we faded a little and I ended up sixth.”

Timing the Meridian Cameras/Pacific Highway Rentals/Wilkie Masonry backed No. 92 in second fastest in his qualifying group, the Auburn, CA driver lined up on the front row of his heat race.

Racing to the heat race win, Forsberg punched his ticket into the High Sierra Industries Dash, where a third-place finish put him in the second row of the 35-lap feature event as he sought after his second consecutive win with the SCCT.

When Ron Stahl dropped the green flag to the field, Forsberg worked his way by Dominic Scelzi and took over the second position on a very slick Placerville Speedway surface.

Chasing after Justin Sanders who rode the cushion around the bullring, Forsberg took a liking to a thin strip of moisture in the bottom groove and was able to pace the front runner as he had tremendous drive off both sets of corners despite having to slow up so much on entry.

Closing in on the leader as they got into traffic, Forsberg made the decision to try the cop on lap 19 as the bottom started to go away. As he committed to the cushion, Sanders tripped over it ahead of him and forced Forsberg to get on the brake briefly and it allowed Scelzi by as Forsberg continued in second.

In the closing laps of the race, Forsberg tried a few different things through traffic but they proved to be costly as he gave up a few spots and capped the night off with a sixth place finish.

Returning to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night for the NARC/KWS portion of the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial, Forsberg again came out strong as he timed in second fastest in time trials with 29 cars checked into the pit area.

Finishing fifth in his heat race, Forsberg garnered enough points to earn a Dash berth as his eighth-place finish put him in the fourth row of the 40-lap feature event.

Unfortunately, Forsberg’s feature event was short lived. Having an issue with his nozzle line on the seventh lap, Forsberg restarted from the tail end of the field, and ran another five laps before calling it a night.

“We had good speed again early in the night, and that put us in the Dash essentially and in a good spot in the feature,’ Forsberg said. “We had a nozzle line come off early, and basically ended our night. This week we are back on the road as we head to Ocean Speedway on Friday night and Petaluma Speedway on Saturday.”

Andy Forsberg and PHR Racing would like to thank Meridian Cameras, Pacific Highway Rentals, Wilkie Masonry, PitStopUSA, Red Line Oil, Autism Awareness, Parking and Transportation Group, Western Featherlite, GP Development, 1st Vanguard, Highway Specialty Co., and KBJ Catering for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-14, Wins-2, Top 5’s-6, Top 10’s-8
