Andy Gregg 8th at Asparagus Cup

PETERSEN MEDIA: Building off speed from last week’s Sprint Car Challenge Tour event at Stockton Dirt Track, Andy Gregg and his GUTS Racing team returned to the facility on Saturday night where they would record an eighth place finish during the inaugural Asparagus Cup.
“I am really happy with the direction we are heading so far in 2018,” Andy Gregg said. “We had a slow start at the beginning of the month in our season opener but the last two races have been really positive and I am excited for our next one.”
31 cars checked in for the inaugural running of the Asparagus Cup that offered up a cool $10,000 to the feature event winner. Gregg would open his night up by laying down a great lap in time trials that put the GUTS/Angius and Terry LLP/Capitol Ace Hardware entry fourth on the speed chart.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Gregg would pick up a position during the race as his third place finish would be good enough to put him in the Dash, where a fifth place finish placed him in the third row of the starting grid for the 30-lap feature event.
On an extremely slick racing surface, Gregg would find him self battling for sixth and seventh place until a caution flag flew on the eighth lap. Slipping back to 10th on the restart, Gregg would continue to race hard as he worked back to ninth on the 10th lap before slipping back to 11th at the race’s half way point.
With wheel to wheel racing action taking over, Gregg would take over 10th with 10-to-go in the race before using a lap 21 restart to move into ninth. Looking to get a little stronger as the race drew to a close, Gregg would race by Dominic Scelzi in the closing laps to secure an eighth place finish at the checkered flag.
“We really learned from our set up mistake last week and it paid off in the feature on Saturday,” Gregg added. “We certainly want to further up and contending for wins but we are trending the right direction and will keep working to get better and better.”
Andy would like to thank GUTS, Angius and Terry LLP, Capitol ACE Hardware, Ice House Resort, CTL Forest Management, ARP Enterprises, Ervin Sales, Broadband Agreements, Russo Insurance, Kelly Moore Paints, Cal Pro Paint and Construction, Triple X, Wilwood, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, K&N, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Amerikote, Pony Express Service, Eagle Grit, and MF Inc. for their support in 2018.
ON TAP: Gregg is considering taking this weekend off before retuning to action on May 5th.
