PETERSEN MEDIA: In the hunt for the win for much of Saturday night’s feature event in Placerville, CA, Andy Gregg would find himself in a dogfight that ended with the Diamond Springs, CA driver finishing in the third spot.

“It was good to have a night go our way for a change,” Andy Gregg said. “We had a really good car and led until lap 20, and I tried a little too hard to get the top spot back and we ended up finishing third.”

Getting his night started off by timing the GUTS Racing/Mike’s Hard Lemonade/Angius and Terry LLP backed No. 16 machine in fastest in qualifying, Gregg would finishing fifth in his heat race.

By way of his heat race finish mixed with his qualifying effort, Gregg would make himself eligible for the redraw where the one pill placed him on the pole for the 25-lap feature event.

When the green flag waived on the 25-lapper, Gregg would see fellow front row started Jake Morgan get the jump going into turn one, but as the field raced off of turn two, Gregg would be in the third spot as Greg DeCaires made the bottom work to take the race lead.

Getting by Jake Morgan to take second, Gregg would dive underneath DeCaires on the eighth lap to take over the race lead. On an extremely slick Placerville Speedway with a  thick cushion built up in both ends, Gregg would set a strong pace out front as he looked to score his first win of the 2016 season.

Leading on the 19th lap, Gregg would feel pressure from a surging Mason Moore, and would see Moore take over the top spot on the 20th lap. Trying ever so hard to get back by Moore, Gregg would stumble on the cushion in the closing laps and allow Sean Becker to take the second spot.

Able to gather himself up in the third spot, Gregg would end his night back on the podium at home hometown track.

“I wanted to win this one bad for my guys and our partners, but we came up a little short,” Gregg said. “It was a fun race to be a part of, and with the way things have gone lately, it was nice to be in the mix and get a full race in.”

Andy would like to thank GUTS, Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Angius and Terry LLP, ARP Enterprises, Capitol Ace Hardware, New Gen Landscape, Broadband Agreements, K&N, FK Rod Ends, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, FK Shocks, Wilwood, Arnold’s For Awards, CTL Forest Management, Empire Works, Ice House Resort, Ervin Sales, EMI, Watson Cattle, Wally’s Pizza Bar, Myers and Sons Dry Wall, K&T Custom Fab, Amerikote, Pony Express Service, and Nail It Roofing  for their support in 2016.
