PETERSEN MEDIA: For the second race-in-a-row, Andy Gregg would overcome an early issue as he again battled back to sixth during the 13th Annual Mark Forni Classic.

“It is great to say that we have been able to come from the back and finish sixth two-weeks in a row, but unfortunately we have done that because of early miscues,” Andy Gregg said.  “We definitely have an extremely fast car and I have to thank my guys for all of their hard work.”

Timing the GUTS/Angius and Terry LLP/Capitol Ace Hardware machine in 15th quickest in qualifying time trials, the Diamond Springs, CA driver would take advantage of his front row starting position in his heat race and pick up the win.

By way of his win, the former Mark Forni Classic winner would move into the redraw where the eighth pill put him in the fourth row for the 25-lap feature event.

Running in the Top-10 early in the race, lap five would change Gregg’s night as he would lose the handle and spin his entry out in turns three and four. Able to refire, Gregg would tag the rear of the field where he would have some ground to make up on an extremely slick racing surface.

From 17th, Gregg would slowly work his way back forward as he would get up into 14th just past the race’s halfway point. Slipping back to 15th briefly, Gregg would use a lap 17 restart to work his way into 10th, before fining himself in seventh on the 19th lap.

Getting into sixth with just five laps left in the finale, Gregg would chase after rival, Andy Forsberg for a spot inside the Top-Five. Turning in his fastest lap on the 22nd lap as some rubber went down on the speedway, Gregg would be unable to get into the Top-Five but still was able to cap his night with a sixth place finish.

“We were able to again come through traffic with some good speed, so that’s defiantly a positive,” Gregg added. “We have a couple weeks off which will be nice, and hopefully we can come back and compete for a win or two before we call it a year.”

Andy would like to thank GUTS, Angius and Terry LLP, Capitol ACE Hardware, Crane Inspection Agency, Ice House Resort, CTL Forest Management, Nail It Roofing, ARP Enterprises, Ervin Sales, Triple X, Wilwood, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, K&N,  King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Amerikote, Pony Express Service, Eagle Grit, and MF Inc. for their support in 2018.

ON TAP: Andy Gregg will take a couple of weeks off before returning to action during the 2nd Annual Nor-Cal Posse Shootout on September 21 and 22nd at Placerville Speedway.

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-13, Wins- 0, Top 5’s-3, Top 10’s-8
