Andy Gregg Fights Back For 12thPlace Finish Saturday Night

PETERSEN MEDIA: Caught up with nowhere to go while running well inside the Top-10 on Saturday night, Andy Gregg would recover to finish 12that Placerville Speedway.

“Unfortunately we got collected running inside the Top-10 just after the halfway point on Saturday night,’ Gregg said. “My guys were able to make a quick fix and we did what we could to get back up to 12th.”

Continuing to get back into racing form after a late start to his season, Andy Gregg would lay down the eighth quickest lap of the nigh in qualifying time trials and find himself on the front row or his heat race.

Coming home with a second place finish in his heat, the Diamond Springs, CA driver would just miss out on the redraw with the way the other heats sorted out and would eventually take the green flag from the ninth starting position for the 25-lap feature event.

Following a quick track prep, Gregg would find himself working the high side of the speedway when the race went green as he worked in the eighth position. Continuing to work the high side of the speedway, Gregg would continue to run in eighth when the race’s first caution flew on the 13thlap.

The ensuring restart would alter Gregg’s night as a spinning car would come down the track and with nowhere to go, Gregg would make contact with his right rear and come to a stop as well with a flat tire and a damaged wheel.

Making a trip to the work area, the GUTS Racing team would make repairs and get the No. 16x machine back out on the speedway. From the back of the pack, Gregg would get what he could in the closing laps of the feature as he picked up a 12thplace finish.

“Having fun, and it feels great to be back out racing,” Gregg said. “We still have some work to do, and I am looking forward to trying again this week at the Mark Forni Classic.”
