PETERSEN MEDIA: Making one last start in 2018, Andy Gregg and his GUTS Racing team made the trip to Stockton, CA on Saturday night as they took part in the 35th Annual Tribute to Gary Patterson with the King of the West Series and capped the year off with a ninth place finish.
“Only getting a total of 19 races in this year, I am pretty happy to finish ninth with the King of the West Series,” Andy Gregg said. “My guys gave me a really good car on Saturday night, I made some mistakes, but I am pleased with how we performed.”
Timing the GUTS/Angius and Terry LLP/Capitol ACE Hardware backed No. 16 machine in fourth quickest in qualifying time trials, the Diamond Springs, CA driver would pick up a third place finish in his heat race.
Mixing time trial points with heat race finish points, Gregg would tabulate enough to make it into the all-important Dash where he would finish sixth and line up in the third row for his final 30-lap feature event of the 2018 season.
On a tricky Stockton Dirt Track surface, Gregg would get off to a bit of a tough start as he would make a couple of costly mistakes early that resulted in lost track position as he would fall back to ninth as things shook out.
Going toe-to-toe with some of the series’ top drivers including Willie Croft, Chase Johnson, and Jason Statler, Gregg would flex some muscle despite having limited starts in 410ci competition in 2018.
When the race came to a close, Gregg would pocket his 10th Top-10 finish of the season as he came home with a ninth place finish.
“I just have to thank my guys, Zach, Robert, Gage, and Matt for all their help all year long, as well as to my amazing partners for all of their support,” Andy Gregg added. “We have already been working hard towards 2019 so hopefully it will be a quick off season and we can get back to racing before we know it.”
