PETERSEN MEDIA: A whirlwind week for Andy Gregg culminated with the Placerville, CA driver charging from 20th to sixth on Saturday night at the Placerville Speedway, his second consecutive hard charge at the high-banked quarter mile speedway.
“It was a crazy week, and I have to thank the family, and friends, who stepped up and helped our personally, and with the race team,” Gregg said. “Willie Croft came up huge and allowed us to borrow an engine, and our entire team thanks him tremendously.”
A week after struggling in time trials, and charging his way from his 18th starting spot to finish sixth, Gregg and his Russell Motorsports team got off to a much better start on Saturday night as he timed the Capitol Ace Hardware/Thompson’s Toyota/New Gen Landscape Management No. 14r machine in third fastest in time trials.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Gregg had a very strong heat race, as he had his elbows up, charging his way to the front as he picked up the heat race win, and solidified his spot in the night’s redraw.
Pulling the eight pill, Gregg was able to make some moves early, and move into the third spot, as he began pressuring Greg DeCaires on the fifth lap. Running the high, scary side of the speedway, Gregg would push the limits of his car a little too far, and would spin his machine out, forcing him to restart from the back of the pack.
From the 20th spot, Gregg showcased his hard charging driving style, as he carved his way back through the dense traffic at the Placerville Speedway. Keeping his nose clean in the closing laps, Gregg would salvage his night with a sixth place finish.
“The way the track has been, I knew I had to get to the front in a hurry if I wanted a chance to win, and unfortunately I just pushed it a little hard, and spun out,” Gregg said. “The guys have been working hard, and we have a really fast racecar, now hopefully we can get some luck on our side, and I think we will be just fine.”
Andy and the Russell Motorsports team would like to thank Capitol Ace Hardware, Thompson’s Toyota, New Gen Landscape Management, Nail It Roofing, Carroll Russell Bookkeeping, Arnold’s For Awards, Goodwin Trucking, Farrell Design-Build Inc., HJS Consulting, Poor’s Equipment Repair, CTL Forrest Management, K&T Fab, K&N Products, FK Rod Ends, King Racing Products, A.R.T. Speed Equipment, GUTS, Amsoil, Wilwood, Amerikote, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Factory Kahne Shocks, Hinchman Indy, and Hansen Machine for their support in 2015.
ON TAP: Gregg will be back at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night for more Placerville Speedway point racing action.
