PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking advantage of a couple of non-point shows at the Placerville Speedway to open their season, Andy Gregg and his Russell Motorsports team seemed to leave the bad luck behind them as Gregg picked up a second place finish on Saturday night during the Championship Kick Off.

“We had some tough luck at the World of Outlaws race and during the PA Posse race, but it was a really good way to open the point season at Placerville Speedway,” Gregg said.

Gregg got his night started off very well as he timed the Capitol Ace Hardware/Thompson’s Toyota/New Gen Landscape Management No. 14r machine in with the fastest lap of the night amongst the 25 cars that checked into the pit area.

Lining up fourth in his heat race, the Placerville, CA pilot had his elbows up as he worked his way forward to score a second place finish, and safely transfer into the 25-lap main event.

By way of the night’s redraw, Gregg would find himself with the two-pill and start on the front row alongside Jake Morgan. When the green lights flashed, Gregg battled with Morgan before slipping back to the second spot, as he then felt pressure from third running, Steven Tiner.

In a tight battle up front, Gregg would find himself in the third spot, as he went to work on both Tiner and Morgan.

On the seventh lap, Gregg would work his way into the second spot, to the crowd’s delight, as he chased after Steven Tiner, who had broke away from the field, until the caution waived at the half way point.

The restart saw Gregg begin to be pressured by Greg DeCaires, and the two Placerville Speedway fan favorites would hook up in an entertaining battle over the race’s final laps.

Able to fend off DeCaries, Gregg would close the point season opener out as he took the checkered flag with a second place finish.

“You hate to talk about points after the first night, but it was a great start to the season for us,” Gregg said. “We would have loved to have been one spot better, but we will take this, and look forward to next week. I really want to thank Scott and Kami Russell for letting me drive for them again, as well as all of the great people who support this deal.”

Andy and the Russell Motorsports team would like to thank Capitol Ace Hardware, Thompson’s Toyota, New Gen Landscape Management, Nail It Roofing, Carroll Russell Bookkeeping, Arnold’s For Awards, Goodwin Trucking, Farrell Design-Build Inc., HJS Consulting, Poor’s Equipment Repair, CTL Forrest Management, K&T Fab, K&N Products, FK Rod Ends, King Racing Products, A.R.T. Speed Equipment, GUTS, Amsoil, Wilwood, Amerikote, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Factory Kahne Shocks, Hinchman Indy, and Hansen Machine for their support in 2015.

ON TAP: Gregg will be back at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night for more Placerville Posse series action.
