(PETERSEN MEDIA)- Making her way up the open wheel ranks, 16-year-old Anissa Curtice was able to make her first competitive laps in a full sized sprint car over the weekend in Marysville, CA with GW Racing, and is set to make her return to the track this Saturday night during the Mel Hall Memorial.

Beginning her racing career at the age of five in Karts, Anissa has recently been a fixture at both Red Bluff Speedway and Cycleland Speedway honing her craft at what has become the training ground for Northern California racers.

Aside from Outlaw Karts, the last two summers Curtice has been able to compete in a Legend at Redwood Acres where she was able to pick up a feature event win and earn Rookie of the Year Honors.

2018 the initial plan was to run an entry-level sprint car on a limited basis to let Curtice get her feet wet but offseason changes saw the family seek out Tim Williams and GWR.

“We changed our plans a little bit to wait and see what class and rules packages survives,” Brad Curtice said. “We were fortunate too hook up with Tim Williams of GWR and let Anissa get her feet wet in some top notch equipment as well as work with someone like Tim. It really is a great scenario for us to work with someone with a ton of experience.”

This past Saturday night, Curtice and GWR made their debut together at Marysville Raceway as the track looks to launch the 305ci division up North. While the turnout was light, it was great for Curtice and Williams to get a ton of laps together as progress was seemingly made lap after lap.

“Saturday night was pretty cool,” Tim Williams said. “She hadn’t fired a car off until wheel pack that night, and she picked it up quick. I am really looking forward to Saturday night and hopefully there is a few more cars there so she can get some racing laps in.”

GWR would like to thank Speedway Motors, CS9, System1, F&J Schott Trucking, Hoosier, Simpson, ButlerBuilt, Capitol Renegade, David Williams Welding, Petersen Media, Fagundes Auto Body, Blanchard Dozing, and Willwood Brakes for their support.
