PETERSEN MEDIA- Elk Grove’s Ashlyn Rodriguez might be just 13-years-old, but this eighth grader is already aspiring to be the best race car driver she can be. Entering her sixth season of auto racing, Ashlyn is the daughter of Johnny Rodriguez a two-time USAC Western States Midget Champion and Silver Dollar Speedway 410 sprint car track champion.
With her father’s guidance and family support, Ashlyn is set to tackle an aggressive racing schedule in 2018.
Ashlyn plans to travel the King of California Micro Sprint Series. The series races up and down Northern and Central California. Ashlyn will also compete during the 2018 California Speed week. She will also race at Delta and Lemoore for points. As if that wasn’t a full plate already, the team will travel to Deming, WA and compete in the 2018 Clay Cup Nationals.
Ashlyn has built her resume the proper way, from the ground up. At nine years old, she competed in the quarter-midget ranks. She moved up the ranks from Senior Novice, Senior Honda and Lite 160’s. This past season, Rodriguez competed in the ultra-competitive 600 / ¾ restricted micro sprints.
Her on track performance has been impressive. She describes her racing style as “patiently aggressive.” This has led to numerous track records and wins. Feature event wins have come at American (Sacramento), Livermore, Baylands (San Jose), Orange Show (San Bernardino), and Delta Speedway. “I love the adrenaline you get from racing,” said Rodriguez. “I also love the traveling that I get to do with my family. It is a great experience to see so many different race tracks with them.”

Come meet Ashlyn and her race team at this year’s Sacramento Autorama located at Cal Expo. The event is held between February 16th-18th. “It will be great to see my car on display at such a large event,” said Rodriguez. “It will also serve a way for me to say thank you to my sponsors who are helping me chase my racing dreams.” When asked what those dreams include she responded by saying, “I would love the opportunity to race for Toyota Racing/Keith Kunz Motorsports.”
