Ashton Torgerson Sixth in DuQuoin, IL During First Weekend with Keith Kunz Motorsports

PETERSEN MEDIA- Kicking off his rookie campaign with the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series, Ashton Torgerson made his first two starts with the Keith Kunz Motorsports and finished sixth in Saturday night’s finale.

Spending his weekend at the Southern Illinois Center, Torgerson kicked his 2024 midget season of by timing in fourth fastest in his qualifying group. The qualifying effort put him on the front row of his heat race, and he quickly went to work battling with his KKM teammate, Gavin Miller.

Slipping back to finish fourth, Torgerson was forced into one of the night’s Last Chance Qualifiers where he lined up in the fourth starting position and needed to finish inside the Top-Two to keep his night alive.

Starting and finishing fourth in his heat, Torgerson’s opener came to a bit of an early end, but the Glendale, AZ driver didn’t let that ruin the rest of his weekend.

Bouncing right back and returning to action on Saturday night, Torgerson again time din fourth in time trials, which put him on the pole of his heat race for the second consecutive night.

Not wasting the prime starting position this time, Torgerson was able to wire the field and race his way to the heat race win and move directly into the 40-lap feature event.

Taking the green flag from the seventh starting position, Torgerson slipped back to eighth in the opening laps, but was able to race into sixth by the race’s seventh circuit.

Battling hard on the tight confines of the indoor facility, Torgerson did slip back to eighth momentarily just past the race’s halfway point but was able to work his way into the Top-5 in the closing stanzas of the race.

Taking the white flag in fifth, a last lap battle saw him lose the spot as he capped the weekend off with a hard fought sixth place finish.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 12, Wins- 1, Top 5’s- 3, Top 10’s- 5
