PETERSEN MEDIA: Continuing his quest for the 2018 USAC West Coast 360 Series Championship, Austin Liggett returned to action on Saturday night in Hanford, CA where he came away with him fifth Top-Five of the season as he finished fourth.

“We had a really good car on the bottom, but we had nothing for (race winner) Richard Vander Weerd,” Liggett said. “He was really good. Late in the race a tire ended up out on the track and it forced me to move up top where I wasn’t very good and we lost a couple of positions, but all in all a Top-Five is a good night.”

Timing the Excel Environmental Services/Lucas Oil/Hurst Fabrications entry in third quickest in qualifying time trials, Liggett would surge to the heat race win.

Lining up in the second row of the feature event, the slick surface on this night would create a nice two groove race track. Going to work on the low side of the speedway, the Tracy, CA pilot would make some swift moves to overtake the second position.

In second, Liggett would find himself chasing after race leader, Richard Vander Weerd who was earning his money on the Keller Auto Speedway cushion. Able to get alongside Vander Weerd on a couple of occasions, Vander Weerd’s momentum would keep him out front at Liggett continued the attack.

As the laps drew on, Ligget’s line would get interrupted by a stray infield barrier that had work its way on the part of the track. With the green lights staying on, Liggett would then be forced to venture to the top of the speedway where he would struggle al ittle.

Letting Jace Vander Weerd and Tristan Guardino by late, Liggett would close his Saturday night out with a fourth place finish.

“It felt good to be back racing, after a week off and now we will look forward to getting back to Tulare, CA this weekend and try to duplicate our success from the last few times we have been there,” Liggett said. “Big thanks to everyone that helped out on Saturday.”

Austin Liggett Racing would like to thank Excel Environmental Services, Lucas Oil, Hurst Fabrications, Infinity Shocks, 4 Alarm Promotions, Epic Fire Apparel, and Jarrett Soares Racing for their support.

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-8, Wins-1, Top 5’s-5, Top 10’s-5
