PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to Thunderbowl Raceway Saturday night with the USAC West Coast 360 Series, Austin Liggett continued to run well at the high-banked facility as he finished fourth.
“It is good to be consistent but we really want to be up battling for wins,” Austin Liggett said. “My guys gave me a really good car, and don’t get me wrong we are happy to run fourth and have another strong finish.”
Timing the Excel Environmental Services/Lucas Oil/Hurst Fabrications backed No. 83 machine in second fastest in qualifying time trials, the Tracy, CA would make quick work of the field in his heat race as he worked his way to win from fourth.
Finding himself in the third row of the feature event, track prep prior to the feature event made the track extremely fast around the top and made for a bit of follow the leader racing action.
Jumping into fourth when the race came to life, Liggett followed suit and put his right-rear right up on the vaunted Thunderbowl Raceway wall as he chased after the likes of Max Adams and Danny Faria.
Laying down strong laps, the field would remain evenly split and he would be unable to make up ground as he looked to crash the podium party. As the checkered flag was displayed to the field, the current series point leader brought his machine home with a fourth place finish.
“It was nice to get on a surface that wasn’t so abusive on tires,” Liggett said. “It was also fun to rip around the top like we did. We will take this top-five and see what we can do at Santa Maria this weekend.”
