PETERSEN MEDIA: Continuing to shake down his new Mona Liggett owned Midget, Austin Liggett and crew made the trip to Bakersfield Speedway on Saturday night and grabbed another Top-5 as the Tracy, CA driver finished fourth.
“Overall it was a good night of racing in the Midget,” Austin Liggett said. “We are still fine tuning some things, but I am really excited with how we have been in it so far.”
With 20 cars checked in Saturday night, Liggett would get off to a nice start as he timed the Excel Environmental Services/Liggett Trucking/Tool Technology entry in fourth quickest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up fifth in his heat race, Liggett would get the elbows up as he worked his way forward around the speedway and impressed the crowd by picking up the win.
Lining up fourth in the feature, Liggett would run third most of the race as he admittedly did not have anything for the lead duo of Jake Swanson and Michael Faccinto.
A restart with 10-to-go would make things tough on the Hurt Fabrications/Maxwell Industries/Shine Photography machine. Slipping back to eighth, Liggett would have his work cut out for himself.
Settling back into his groove, he would recover nicely as he sliced and diced his way back forward and worked his way back up to the fourth spot when the checkered flag flew.
“My Crew Chief Scott Perovich really had the car dialed in, and handling well all night long,” Liggett said. “Once we get our engine fine tuned, I think we will really have a stout piece on our hands. Thanks to my parents, and Matt as well for busting their butt’s all night long and keeping us fast.”
