PETERSEN MEDIA: Unique circumstances in 2020 have delayed Austin Liggett’s 2020 racing plans, but the Tracy, CA driver was finally able to hit the dirt on Saturday night and picked up a third-place finish at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA.
“It was good to get back in the car and shake the rust off a little bit,” Austin Liggett said. “To open your season up on a 104-degree day is pretty rough, and I owe it to all my guys for busting their butts on a pretty grueling day.”
Taking part in Keller Auto Speedway’s Kings of Thunder Bandit Non-Wing season opening event, Liggett would get off to a quick start aboard the Excel Environmental Services/Liggett Trucking/ZMAX backed No. 83 as he timed in second fastest in time trials.
On the slick surface, Liggett would look to be in midseason form in his heat race as he was able to put on quite a charge. Lining up sixth based on his qualifying time, Liggett would carve his way forward to a third-place finish and safely keep himself in the feature event inversion.
Following track prep prior to the feature event with track conditions going extremely slick, Liggett would line up in the third for the 20-lap feature event.
When the race came to life, he would keep his mount inside the Top-5 as he battled with the likes of Tyler Smith, Tristan Guardino, and Ryan Timmons.
A couple of stoppages would halt the race’s flow, but Liggett would continue to flex his muscle on this night as he worked his way into third. Getting stronger in the race’s final laps, Liggett would track down the lead duo but ran out of time during the 20-lap affair as he capped the night with a third-place finish.
“Getting back in a car for the first time since Turkey Night back in November felt really good,” Liggett said. “We had a blast, we ran well, and hopefully we can get back to it sooner than later.”
