PETERSEN MEDIA: Meeting up with the USAC National Sprint Car Series over the weekend at the Oval Nationals, Austin Liggett and his team didn’t have the weekend they set out for, but looking back Liggett was able to walk away with a positive outlook.
“Overall we did not get the results that we set out to get,” Austin Liggett said. “We just struggled to get our car right in time trials each night, and it set us back right away.”
Though he would struggle early in all three nights of competition, Liggett and his Excel Environmental Services/Liggett Trucking/Tool Technology team would head the right direction as each night progressed as the Tracy, CA driver was able to race his way into all three features, and pick up a couple of heat race wins.
“To race our way into each feature event and not have to go through any B-Mains was one huge plus for us,” Liggett said. “We also were able to pick up a couple of heat race wins over some super talented drivers, so again also something we can be proud of.”
Getting into all three feature events, Liggett would finish 25thin Saturday’s finale, 15thon Friday, and 22ndon Thursday night.
“Though our results weren’t there, it was great to spend time with family, and just have some fun and that is really what it is all about,” Liggett noted. “My Dad and Landon Hurst worked tirelessly all weekend to try and get our car better, and I can’t thank them enough for their desire to get a perfect car on the track. I also have to thank My mom, my sister Angela, and Lukas Steward for their support and help all weekend.”
