PETERSEN MEDIA: Austin Liggett has been extremely strong with the USAC West Coast 360 Series, and that stayed true on Saturday night in Ventura, CA as he charged from deep to finish second.

“We got into some trouble in our heat race, and it made us come from the back,” Liggett said. “I have to thank my guys as well as Jake Swanson, Steve Hix, and everyone that helped us get the car back together for the feature.”

With 26 cars checked into the pit area, Liggett would time the Excel Environmental Services/Liggett Trucking/Lucas Oil backed No. 83 machine in third fastest. Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Tracy, CA driver got a great start that saw him get into the second spot.

With the leader getting out of shape right in front of him, Liggett would make contact and it resulted in him getting upside down.

A host of people from other teams worked hard in the Austin Liggett Racing pit area to get the Infinity Shocks/SWE/Brian Sperry Racing backed machine back on track for the feature event.

Lining up in the 17th starting position, Liggett would go to work on the bottom of the speedway and make some big time moves. Showing patience Liggett would continue to work the bottom all the way up to the second spot as rubber would slowly go down on the speedway.

With two-to-go, Liggett would work his way into the race lead only to see the caution flag fly and undo his pass. At this time, officials would opt to open the red up for fuel, and it allowed Swanson to adjust his line on the final restart.

Unable to get by in the last two laps, Liggett would end his night with an extremely hard fought second place finish.

“I really wanted to get the win from 17th but it just didn’t work out,” Liggett added. “My dad had this thing dialed, and it was a pretty fun race.”

Austin Liggett Racing would like to thank Excel Environmental Services, Liggett Trucking, Lucas Oil, Tool Technology, Infinity Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, Brian Sperry Racing, and Jarrett Soares Racing for their support.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-21, Wins-8, Top 5’s-17, Top 10’s-20

ON TAP: Liggett will take this weekend off before returning to action at Perris Auto Speedway on July 22nd with the USAC/CRA Series.
