PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting back to work on Saturday night at Bakersfield Speedway in Bakersfield, CA, Austin Liggett would contend for his fourth win of the season before finish third for his 11th Top-Five finish of the season.
“It was a pretty good night for the most part,” Austin Liggett said. “Before the feature they re worked the track and we though it would stay pretty hooked up. He tricked us a blew off and towards the end of the race we weren’t very good and fell back to third.”
Timing the Excel Environmental Services/Lucas Oil/Hurst Fabrications entry in third fastest in qualifying time trials, Liggett would continue his strong start to the night as he advanced from third to win his heat race.
Watching the track undergo extensive track prep prior to the feature event, Liggett and company would go to work on his machine, as they would take the green flag from the front row.
When the race came to life, Liggett would jump out to the early lead on a fast surface. Looking very strong out front, Liggett would continue to lead the way though as the track began to slow down Liggett would start to feel pressure from the field.
Though his car was starting to go away from him in the latter stages of the race, Liggett would continue to lead the way as laps clicked off. Lap 22 would finally see Liggett cough up the race’s top spot, and he would lose another spot in the closing laps as he would take the checkered flag with a third place finish.
“We just missed it and guessed wrong,” Liggett said. “We win as a team and lose as a team, and it is just part of it. Still to hang on and run third is great, and we will regroup and try again in a couple of weeks.”
