PETERSEN MEDIA: Checking into Placerville Speedway for the fourth C&H Veteran Enterprises Joe Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprints Series event of the 2017 season, Austin Liggett and the Brian Sperry Racing team would pick up a very hard fought third place finish.

“Overall it was another great night for our race team,” Liggett said. “We were in a good position in the feature event, but Klint Simpson didn’t make any mistakes, and I ended up losing some ground trying to make something happen.”

With 31 cars on hand at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Liggett would get things kicked off by timing the C&H Veteran Enterprises/Excel Environmental Services/Benic Enterprises backed No. 51 machine in second fastest in time trials.

Going from fourth to first during his heat race, the Tracy, CA driver would continue to show his strength in the Dash as he advanced from sixth to finish in the third spot.

On an extremely slick Placerville Speedway, Liggett would line up in the second row for the 25-lap feature event. Getting into the second spot initially, Liggett would go to work on the early leader, Klint Simpson.

Trying everything he could to get around Simpson, passing would prove to be at a premium on this night. A mid race restart would see Liggett make a bobble in turns one and two, and it would result in him falling back to the fourth spot.

Now with his work cut out for him, Liggett would go to work on Kalib Henry and Casey McClain as they were able to get by him. Able to get by Henry in the closing laps, Liggett would be unable to get back to the second spot and ended his night with a third place finish.

“Brian Sperry and my dad gave me a fast racecar, but we just weren’t fast enough to make something spectacular happen,” Liggett added. “Klint drove a great race, and we congratulate those guys.”

Brian Sperry Racing would like to thank C&H Veteran Enterprises, Excel Environmental Services, Benic Enterprise, Santomauro Racing Products, Jarrett Soares Racing, and Bailey Bros. Racing Engines for their support in 2017.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-7, Wins-4, Top 5’s-7, Top 10’s-7

ON TAP: Liggett and the Brian Sperry Racing team will now get a bit of a break as they are not scheduled to return to action until May 27th at the Stockton Dirt Track.
