Austin McCarl 7th at Dave Helm Memorial

PETERSEN MEDIA: Closing the 2021 season out with Country Builders Racing, Austin McCarl and team made the decision to run a full slate together in 2022, and that kicked off on Saturday night in Hanford, CA with a seventh-place finish.

“I am really excited to be back with the Country Builders Racing team in 2022, and it felt great to get back to racing on Saturday night,’ McCarl said. “I felt really good about our car and our speed all night, just a couple of mistakes cost us a better starting position in the feature and track position was really important.”

Timing the Country Builders/Ochoco West Lumber/Walker’s backed No. 88 entry in fourth fastest in time trials, McCarl would line up on the front row of his heat race alongside Shane Golobic.

Not getting the jump, McCarl would settle into second. Needing to win to garner a spot in the Dash, McCarl would settle for second which would then place him in the third row for the 30-lap feature event.

On a very fast track mixed with a strong field of 410’s, passing would prove to be tough up front. When the race came to life, McCarl went to make an early move while the field was bunched up but with a car getting tight in front of him, the Altoona, IA driver would also wash up the track and give up a couple of positions.

Slipping back to ninth, McCarl would spend all race trying to make up the lost ground. Able to make a couple of late moves, McCarl closed his opener out with a seventh-place finish.

“It was a tough track for everyone, and we were a little tight all night,” McCarl noted. “I am still happy with how things felt, and I am looking forward to taking on the Outlaws in a couple of weeks. I really want to thank the Offill’s, everyone involved at Country Builders, and all our great partners for helping up get prepared and get out ot the track.”
