Austin McCarl and Country Builders Racing Continue California Swing

PETERSEN MEDIA: Austin McCarl and the Country Builders Racing team continue to compete in California to kick their 2022 season off and this past weekend saw them begin their swing with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series in Tulare, CA.

"Overall, it was a pretty good weekend for us, and for me personally that was the best I have felt in Tulare, CA,” Austin McCarl said. “I was happy to draw an early pill both days and put ourselves in a decent spot for time trials. Qualifying is huge with the Outlaws since everyone is so tough, so that’s an area we must get better in.”

Friday night McCarl got the night kicked off by timing the Country Builders/Ochoco West Lumber/Walkers backed No. 88 entry in 16th quickest amongst the 32 cars checked into the Thunderbowl.

Heat race action saw the Altoona, IA pilot battle with the likes of Kraig Kinser as the veteran jockeyed for position well within a transfer position. Hanging on to finish third, McCarl moved into the opening night feature event where he rolled off the starting grid from the 12th position.

In close quarter racing action on the always exciting Thunderbowl, McCarl would spending much of the race battling for position inside the Top-15. Spending much of the early portions of the race in 12th, McCarl would shuffle back to 15th as the race reached the halfway point.

When the grueling 35-lapper came to a close, AMAC would cap his night off with a 17th place finish.

Right back to work on Saturday night, McCarl would improve from Friday night’s qualifying session as he timed the Tucker Trucking/Kolthoff Electric/MAAS Brothers Powder Coating backed entry in 12th fastest.

Running fourth in his heat race after a torrid battle with Carson Macedo and Kerry Madsen, McCarl would again transfer directly into the feature event where he would take the green flag from the 16th starting spot.

On a tricky Thunderbowl Raceway surface that saw much of the field use the bottom groove as the preferred line, McCarl would make some headway as he worked forward towards the Top-10.

Using some restarts to his advantage, ‘The Big Unit’ would take a couple shots at the eighth spot but his passes wouldn’t stick. Continuing to work inside the CBR No. 88 cockpit, McCarl closed his weekend out with a 13th place finish.

“Friday night I felt like I made a couple of mistakes during the feature and could have done a better job, but I felt like our car was there,” McCarl said. “Saturday night that track was really tricky, but I felt good, and we got into the Top-10 a few times but I couldn’t make the moves stick. Really happy with how things are going, and hoping the weather plays nice this weekend.”

Austin McCarl and Country Builders Racing would like to thank Country Builders, Ochoco West Lumber, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Walkers, Tucker Trucking, Kolthoff Electric, MAAS Brothers Powder Coating, Offill Family Farms, Stealth Cam, Bosma Family Farms, Muddy, HRP, Penske Racing Shocks, A.R.T.
