Austin McCarl and Country Builders Racing Net Chico, CA Top-10

PETERSEN MEDIA: Over the last month, Austin McCarl and Country Builders Racing have been mainstays at Chico, CA’s Silver Dollar Speedway, and Hanford, CA’s Keller Auto Speedway with the way the schedule played out. Coming in off of a Top-5 in Hanford, CA, McCarl picked up an eighth-place finish during Chico’s Fall Nationals on Saturday night as he now turns his attention back to Hanford, CA for this weekend’s Cotton Classic and Morrie Williams Tribute.

“It has been good to get some familiarity at these two tracks this year with only running at Hanford one time in 2020,” Austin McCarl said. “Getting back to Chico, CA on Friday night, qualifying was so crucial and going out early kind of buried us and made for a long night.”

Timing in 18th fastest in his qualifying flight with 66 cars on hand for the Pacific Sprints Fall National Opener, McCarl lined the Country Builders/Ochoco West Lumber/Brown and Miller Racing Solutions backed No. 88 up in the fifth row of his heat race. On a locked down racing surface in heat race action, the start would see McCarl bike up hard in turns one and two and come to a stop off the racing surface.

Back two more rows for the restart, passing would be at a premium as McCarl would end up 11th which forced him into the C Main. Lining up sixth in the ‘C’, passing would still be tough with the track still extremely fast. Unable to work into a transfer, McCarl’s Friday night came to an end with a sixth-place finish in the ‘C’.

“After qualifying and with how the track was, I knew it would be one of those nights you just looked to survive, and take anything that was given to you,” McCarl added. “We came back with a much stronger night on Saturday.”

Saturday night saw 69 cars jam into the Silver Dollar Speedway pit area as McCarl would get off to a much better start to the night as he timed the famed No. 88 entry in ninth fastest in his qualifying flight.

Lining up fifth in his heat race, the Altoona, IA native would work his way up to the fourth position which would lock him into the 40-lap feature event.

Locking into the 16th starting position, McCarl was off to a good start as he was able to slice and dice his way forward amidst a very wild race that saw several red and yellow flag stoppages.

Continuing to work his way forward, McCarl would crack the Top-10 as he would work into eighth late in the race.

When the checkered flag flew, McCarl capped a hard-fought weekend off with an eighth place finish.

“When the feature went green on Saturday night, I thought we were pretty good,” McCarl added. “I think I needed to be a little more aggressive around the halfway point of the race but things were a little wild out there, so I played it safe and survived. Good to get a Top-10, and really looking forward to getting back in the 410ci car and getting back down to Hanford, CA this weeknd.”

Austin McCarl and Country Builders Racing would like to thank Country Builders, Ochoco West Lumber, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, MAAS Brothers Powder Coating, Offill Family Farms, , HRP, FK Shocks, A.R.T.
