Austin McCarl and Tarlton Motorsports Record Pair of Top-5’s

PETERSEN MEDIA- Austin McCarl and Tarlton Motorsports put together a very strong weekend in what was only the team’s second weekend of action together. Building off of a tough trip to Bakersfield, CA a week ago, McCarl and company picked up fifth and second place finishes at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA.

“Our weekend went really well,” McCarl said. “We timed in well on Friday and it set us for a great weekend. We did what we needed to do, locked into Saturday’s feature and put ourselves in a position to battle for a win.”

Timing the Tarlton and Son, Inc./EZ Haul/Executive Auto Sales backed No. 21 in third quickest in his time trial group, McCarl would race his way to a heat race win and lock himself into the Dash on a very fast and hooked up Keller Auto Speedway surface.

Finishing fifth in the Dash, McCarl would take the green flag from the third row for the 30-lap feature event. With the track staying extremely fast all through the night, the Altoona, IA driver was able to settle into fifth and stay there which would prove to be very vital for the rest of the weekend.

Taking the Friday night checkered flag with a fifth-place finish, the spot would lock McCarl into Saturday night’s Dash and Feature event.

Running third in Saturday night’s Dash after watching preliminary action and getting a feel for what the track was doing, McCarl was geared up to roll off the starting grid from the third position for Saturday’s finale.

Moving into second, McCarl would look strong in traffic as he would work his way into the race lead.

While traffic would benefit him early, it would come back to bite him as McCarl would then lose the lead to Dominic Scelzi as they battled in traffic.

A couple of late restarts would put AMAC on Scelzi’s rear bumper, but with no traffic to slow him down, Scelzi would race on to grab the win as McCarl closed the night out with a second-place finish.

“After the Dash on Saturday night, Paul Baines and Tyrone Tyra made some really good calls that gave us a really good car in the feature,” McCarl added. “All in all it was a great second race weekend with the Tarlton family, and I am excited for what is to come. We would have loved to get a win heading into our KWS opener this weekend, but we are very confident.”

Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son, Inc., EZ Haul, Executive Auto Sales, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 4, Wins: 0, Top 5’s: 2, Top 10’s: 2.
