Austin McCarl Pleased With Rain Shortened Return to Knoxville Raceway

PC- Dave Hill

PETERSEN MEDIA: Finally getting the famed Country Builders Racing entry back on track in Knoxville, IA, Austin McCarl was extremely happy with how the early part of the night went before Mother Nature delayed the feature to a date to be announced later this season.

“It has been a weird Spring with weather, and though we didn’t get to run the feature last weekend, I was happy with how our car felt and the speed we had heading into the ‘A’ where we were scheduled to start on the pole,” Austin McCarl said.

Getting the night underway, McCarl timed the Country Builders Construction/Ochoco West Lumber/Tucker Trucking/Kolthoff Electric backed No. 88 entry in 12th fastest amongst the 23 car field braving the elements for the long awaited season opener at the facility.

Moving into heat race action, ‘The Big Unit’ took the green flag from the second row. Jumping into second on the race’s opening lap, McCarl was able to drive by Dustin Selvage on the second lap to take over the top spot.

Opening up his advantage over the next six-laps, McCarl would race his way to the win and find himself on the pole of the impending feature event.

As preliminary action wrapped up, and cars began to ready for the feature, the sky would open up and a sever downpour would promptly wash out the remainder of the night.

With just feature events left, officials will reschedule the conclusion of the race at a later date this season.

“There are a few things I need to clean up in time trials, but it is a good feeling to know that we do have good speed at Knoxville, and hopefully we can take advantage of our starting position in the feature when we are able to make the race up,” McCarl added.

Austin McCarl and Country Builders Racing would like to thank Country Builders, Ochoco West Lumber, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Walkers, Tucker Trucking, Kolthoff Electric, MAAS Brothers Powder Coating, Offill Family Farms, Stealth Cam, Bosma Family Farms, Muddy, HRP, Penske Racing Shocks, A.R.T.
