Austin McCarl Puts on Passing Exhibition During First Feature of Year at Knoxville Raceway

PC- Chuck Stowe
PETERSEN MEDIA: Pleased with how his night was going one week ago at Knoxville Raceway before being rained out, Mother Nature cooperated this past Saturday and allowed Austin McCarl to put on a show during the feature event as he charged from 17th to third.
“Saturday night was really good for us, but we need to figure out our qualifying gameplan a little better,” Austin McCarl said. “We have really good race speed, but we can’t start 17th every night and expect to pass cars like that and contend for wins.”
McCarl got the night kicked off by timing the Country Builders/Ochoco West/Tucker Trucking/Kolthoff Electric backed No. 88 entry in 16th quickest of the 30 cars that checked into the ‘Sprint Car Capital of the World’.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Altoona, IA native would get the early jump but would feel pressure from eventual feature event winner, Brian Brown.
With Brown getting by McCarl, ‘The Big Unit’ would pester Brown for the race lead but would ultimately settle for a runner up finish.
Locking into the feature event, McCarl had his work cut out for himself as he lined the Brown and Miller/Walkers/Offill Family Farms entry up in the eighth row of the 20-lap finale.
A great start to the ‘A’ saw McCarl power his way up to 13th in just one lap before the first stoppage of the night came. Another quick four-lap run saw McCarl crack the Top-10 and jump into eighth when the red was needed for AJ Moeller.
When the race action resumed, McCarl was able to work his way into the Top-5 at the race’s halfway point as he took over the fourth position before snatching third on a lap 12 restart
Once in third, McCarl set his sights on the lead Matt Juhl and Brian Brown who raced ahead of him but was unable track them down despite getting into traffic in the race’s final laps.
With Justin Clark’s checkered flags waiving, McCarl capped off an impressive run from 17th with a third-place finish.
“It was a cold night, but it was great to get a complete night in and put together a really fun run in the ‘A’,” McCarl said. “The weather looks great for this weekend, and I am looking forward to getting back to Knoxville Raceway, and equally as excited to get the Huset’s Speedway season underway on Sunday.”
Austin McCarl and Country Builders Racing would like to thank Country Builders, Ochoco West Lumber, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Walkers, Tucker Trucking, Kolthoff Electric, MAAS Brothers Powder Coating, Offill Family Farms, Stealth Cam, Bosma Family Farms, Muddy, HRP, Penske Racing Shocks, A.R.T.
