Austin O’Neal Races to Double-X Speedway Top-10

PETERSEN MEDIA: Making this business decision to cancel their plans last weekend with weather looming, Austin O’Neal and the Austin O’Neal Racing team were back in action on Sunday night at Double-X Speedway in Missouri where O’Neal picked up his second Top-10 of the season.

“We went into Sunday night with the mindset that we were going to experiment with our car and try a few things,” Austin O’Neal said. “When it was all said and done, I think we learned some things that we can file away and continue to build our notebook.”

Pullin the 13 for his heat race draw, O’Neal lined up in the second row of his heat race. When the green flag was displayed in heat race action, O’Neal slipped back to fourth as he battled hard to get back up to third.

Keeping third in his crosshairs, O’Neal close the gap at the halfway point of his heat but could not get back by as he settled for a fourth-place finish.

Making wholesale changes for the feature event, O’Neal took the green flag from the seventh starting position.

With the waiving of the green flag, the Kearney, MO native slipped back to 10th as he patiently waited for the track to come to him. As the race progressed, the track continued to slow down and move to the bottom groove and become extremely narrow.

Picking up a couple of positions, O’Neal worked into eighth as the track began to lay rubber. As the rubber went down, the bottom groove turned into a freight train and O’Neal went on to finish eighth and claim his second Top-10 finish of the season.

With Double-X now in the rearview mirror, O’Neal sets his sights on a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader this weekend at I-70 Motorsports Park.

“My family has a lot of history at I-70, and I am really excited to make my first appearance at the track,” O’Neal added. “My grandpa started his career there, and my dad was very tough there on pavement in the late 90’s and early 2000’s and won the NASCAR Heartland Regional Championship. I am hoping I can become the third O’Neal to win at the track.”
