PETERSEN MEDIA- Traveling to Adobe Mountain Speedway over the weekend for a weekend Micro Sprint action, Austin Torgerson picked up a seventh place finish during Friday night’s opener before am impressive charge from 15th to 3rd in Saturday’s finale which netted him Hard Charger honors.
Lining up on the front row of his Friday night heat aboard the Safety-Kleen No. 88, Torgerson hooked up in a drag race with fellow front row starter, Joshua Shipley. As Shipley won the race off of turn two, Torgerson settled into second.
Hanging on to a second place finish in heat race competition, Torgerson transferred directly into the opening night 20-lap feature event where he rolled off the starting grid from the seventh position.
Getting off to a bit of a slow start, the 19-year-old slipped back to eighth in the early goings of the race before falling to ninth at the halfway point. As the race moved along quickly, Torgerson would start to make up for lost ground in the closing stages of the 20-lapper.
Working back into eighth on the 17th lap, the Medford, OR driver worked into seventh on the last lap, where he ended up finishing off the opening night feature event.
Back in action on Saturday night with a 50-lap feature event on the horizon, Torgerson kicked his night off by lining up seventh in his heat race. Having a nice charge in his heat, Torgerson carved his way into fourth, and foreshadowed what was to come in the 50-lap feature event.
Jumping into 13th as the race came to life, Torgerson battled his way forward as he reached the Top-10 on lap eight. Continuing to showcase a very strong car underneath himself, Torgerson worked into ninth on the 10th lap where he ran for the next 10 circuits.
Getting involved in a torrid battle for ninth an 10th during the middle stages of the race, Torgerson came out on top as he powered into eighth on lap 30 before a nice move put him in sixth on the 40th circuit.
The final 10-laps featured Torgerson making a swift charge towards the podium as he worked into fifth on lap 45, before taking over fourth on the 48th lap. Looking like he would fall short of the podium, a last lap pass saw the Oregon pilot net a third place finish at the stripe and capped off an excellent charge from 15th.
