PETERSEN MEDIA- While Ashton Torgerson continues to heal up, Austin Torgerson took over driving duties in the Rowdy Energy No. 02, and he kicked his season off on Saturday night at Adobe Mountain Speedway in Arizona.
With 40 cars checked in to kick off the 2023 season, Torgerson timed the Rowdy Energy No. 02 entry in third quickest in his qualifying group.
Taking the green flag from the seventh starting position in his heat race, the Medford, OR native had his elbows up as he sliced and diced his way forward.
Charging his way to a 4th place finish, Torgerson was safely locked into the feature event where he took the green flag from the 13th starting position.
When the green flag dropped, Torgerson got off to a quick star as he wasted no time driving into the Top-10.
As fate would have it, lap two saw cars get together in front of him and with nowhere to go, Austin Torgerson would be collected in the melee, and it would bring his season opener to a disappointing end.
With the season opening event now in the books, the plan for Austin is to continue to fill in for Ashton aboard the Rowdy Energy No. 02 at least through the month on February until Ashton’s next appointment.
