Austin Torgerson Scores 5th and 6th Place Finishes at Mark Hagopian Memorial

PETERSEN MEDIA- A big weekend of micro action saw Austin Torgerson take part in the Mark Hagopian Memorial in Visalia, CA where a strong three-days of racing culminated with fifth and sixth place finishes during the finale on Saturday night at Plaza Park Raceway.

The weekend kicked off on Thursday as Torgerson took part in the Winged and Non-Winged classes all weekend long.

Thursday night in winged action, Torgerson timed in seventh fastest in his qualifying flight and lined up on the front row of his heat race. Getting the jump from his outside starting position, Torgerson grabbed the win and locked into the opening night feature event.

Lining up in the second row of his 24 lap preliminary night feature event in Winged action, Torgerson slipped back to fifth as the race came to life, but he settled down and worked into sixth.

Once into sixth, the track was tricky for the final race of a busy night, and passing became tough. Holding on to sixth, Torgerson capped Thursday night off with a sixth place run.

Thursday night’s non-winged action also went well for the Glendale, AZ pilot. Going out for time trials as the 25th car on the clock, Torgerson laid down a great lap as he ended up sixth quickest overall.

Heat race competition saw Torgerson power his way to the win after taking the green flag from the outside of the second row and that lined him up on pole of the opening night feature event for non-winged action.

When the race came to life, Torgerson jumped out to the early lead and looked very formidable out front. Leading the first half of the race, lapped 13 proved to be tricky as he slipped back to fifth. Able to pick up one of the lost positions, Torgerson picked up a fourth place finish in the Non-Winged feature which locked him into the Saturday night non-winged ‘A’.

Back in action on Friday night in winged action only, Torgerson continued to flex his muscle and show speed at Plaza Park as he timed in fastest in his qualifying flight.

Lining up fourth in his heat race, another great run saw him land in second which put him on the front row of his Friday night feature event as he looked for the win and a lock in spot to Saturday’s ‘A’.

At the drop of the green flag, it was Steven Snyder Jr getting out into the early lead as Torgerson settled into second. Spending the duration of the ‘A’ giving chase, Torgerson just couldn’t quite race into the lead as he capped his Friday night off with runner up finish and which locked him into the winged pole shuffle and feature event on Saturday.

After finishing fifth in the winged pole shuffle, Torgerson lined up fifth in the winged feature event. With 50-laps ahead of him, Torgerson settled in to fifth where he ran for the first 15 laps of the feature.

Briefly falling back to sixth and then as far as seventh, Torgerson made a move on the 32nd lap that saw him take over fourth for a lap before he settled back into fifth on lap 33.

The final 17 laps saw the AZ runner hold down the spot in the top-five as he took the checkered flag with a fifth-place finish.

Also running the non-winged feature on Saturday night, Torgerson found himself in the second row for the 30-lapper.

When the non-winged feature went live, Torgerson settled into third where he spent much of the feature event running. Looking to be well on his way to a podium finish, a misstep late in the feature saw him give up a couple of positions as he slipped back to sixth.

Back in sixth on the 25th lap, he didn’t quite have enough time to make up for lost ground but still capped a strong weekend off by taking he checkered flag in sixth.

ON TAP: Torgerson will be idle this weekend with his next event TBD.
