Austin Torgerson Scores CA Speedweek Non-Wing Win at Delta Speedway
PETERSEN MEDIA- With California Speedweek now in the books, Austin Torgerson highlighted a long week of racing with a 4th of July win in the non-wing class at Delta Speedway.
Kicking off back on June 30th at Keller Auto Raceway at Plaza Park, Torgerson ran double duty during all five nights of competition. In Super 600 Winged action, Torgerson picked up three Top-Five finishes highlighted by a third place effort during the opener in Visalia, CA.
Non Winged action just as good for the Glendale, AZ runner as he also tabulated a trio of Top-Five finishes including the aforementioned win during the 4th of July visit to Delta Speedway and backed it up with a runner up finish during Wednesday night’s finale.
Tuesday night’s win started off with Torgerson timing his Safety Kleen backed No. 88 entry in seventh fastest after going out extremely late in time trials. Lining up third in his heat race, Torgerson worked his way to a second-place finish and lined up in the third row of the 30-lap feature event.
From his fifth starting spot, Torgerson was a rocket aboard his Lee Lindgren prepared machine. Jumping into third when the race came to life, Torgerson ran a very patient race as he kept the lead duo within striking distance.
Taking over second on the 18th lap, Torgerson pounced a lap later as he took command of the race on lap 19.
Out in front, Torgerson was not to be denied, as he led the final 10-laps and score the coveted CA Golden Bear trophy that is up for grabs during each feature event during CA Speedweek.
With Speedweek wrapping up on Wednesday night, Torgerson ended his week finishing second overall in non-wing points, and fourth overall in Super 600 Winged Points.
ON TAP: Austin Torgerson will be off this coming weekend but is tentatively scheduled to run at Placerville Speedway on July 15th.
