Austin Torgerson Wins KKM Giveback Prelim at Plaza Park

PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking part in the first ever Keith Kunz Motorsports Giveback event in California last weekend, Austin Torgerson picked up a win during his Thursday night prelim event, before a tangle in the Friday night finale ended his night early.

Hitting the Plaza Park Speedway on Thursday night for his preliminary night, Torgerson got his night off to a quick start as he was quick time in the Torgerson Racing No. 88 entry.

Going from fourth to third in his heat race, Torgerson moved into a qualifier where he again lined up in the second row for the 10-lap race. Picking up a couple of key positions, Torgerson finished second and locked into the feature event where he found himself on the front row.

Lining up on the outside of the front row alongside Gavin Miller, Torgerson got the jump as he paced the field into turns one and two. Looking very strong out front, Torgerson kept the field at bay despite a couple of stoppages putting the field back on his rear bumper.

Nailing his restarts, Torgerson was not to be denied on this night as he raced his way to the feature event win and successfully locked into the Friday night KKM Giveback feature event.

Checking back in at the revamped Visalia, CA facility on Friday night for the 35-lap feature event, Torgerson rolled off the starting grid from the outside of the second row as he chased after the $10,000 top prize that was up for grabs.

When the green was displayed to the field, Torgerson jumped into third as he continued to look very stout at the central California facility. Running hard against some of the top names in the country, Torgerson surrendered the third position on lap 20 as he slipped back to fourth.

As the laps clicked off, Torgerson continued to run well inside the Top-5 until trouble struck with just six laps to go. As the second-place runner challenged for the lead he half spun and got our shape.

Attempting to correct, he forced Torgerson and Gavin Miller to make contact and it brought Austin’s weekend to a disappointing end.

ON TAP: Austin Torgerson is scheduled to make his season debut in the family owned winged 360ci sprint car this Saturday night in Placerville, CA.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-18, Wins-2, Top 5’s-5, Top 10’s-7
