Austin Torgerson Wins Opening Night of Mark Hagopian Memorial Before Finishing 2nd During the Finale




PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting back into a 600 Micro Sprint over the weekend in Visalia, CA, Austin Torgerson scored a win in the winged class during Thursday’s opener before finishing second in Saturday’s 50-lap finale.


Kicking things off in winged action on Thursday night, the Glendale, AZ driver was in flight A on this night, and timed in third fastest in qualifying time trials.


Lining up fourth in his heat, Torgerson was able to rip around the Plaza Park Raceway and tally a second-place finish. The finish locked him into the Flight A feature event where he led the field to green for his 24-lap finale of the Twin-24’s on this night.


When the green flag was displayed, Torgerson dropped the hammer and shot out to the early lead. Setting a very torrid pace out front, he was able to fend off the lieks of Cody Key, as well as his younger brother, Ashton.


Leading from flag to flag, Torgerson picked up the win and locked himself into the Saturday night finale.


Thursday night also saw Torgerson in action in the non-winged division. Timing his mount in 10th fastest in time trials, Torgerson was on the front row of his heat race.


From the second starting position, he was able to power his way to the lead and ultimately pick up the win as he locked into the Non-Winged feature.


Lining up in the fourth row, Torgerson didn’t quite have the run he had hoped for as he slipped back to a 12th place finish.


Spectating on Friday night, Torgerson was back in action on Saturday night as he was locked into the Winged feature event and the pole shuffle, as well as being in the second row of the third qualifier in Non-Winged action.


Finishing third in his Non-Winged qualifier, Torgerson again lined up in the fourth row of the feature event. From the fourth row on Saturday, Torgerson was able to slice and dice his way forward as he charged towards the top-five. Getting into sixth on the ninth lap, Torgerson powered into fourth on the 18th circuit.


Once in fourth, Torgerson settled in and held the position as the checkered flag eventually flew.


Finishing fourth in the Winged Pole Shuffle, Torgerson took the green flag from the fourth position in the 50-lap Mark Hagopian Memorial feature event.


In a very long and grueling race, Torgerson was in the hunt from start to finish. When the dust settled on the exciting feature, he capped the weekend of with a second place finish.


ON TAP: Austin Torgerson is idle this weekend, but returns to action for the Fall Nationals October 6th and 7th in Chico, CA.
