PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to the seat of the Spencer Motorsports No. 34 winged sprint car on Saturday night, Dakota Albright overcame some early issues before a ‘B’ Main tangles ultimately brought his night to an end.
“It was great to get back in the sprint car, and I want to thank Rick and Dan for working so hard to get the car together and race ready despite it being a bit of a scramble,” Albright said. “I made some mistakes, but did feel pretty good by the end of the night.”
With 39 cars on hand in Marysville, CA for the annual Mel and Marlyn Hall Memorial, the Waterford, CA driver timed the Thompson’s Family of Dealerships/Sacramento Battery/Morgan Precision Roofing backed No. 34 in 19th fastest in his flight.
“I made a mistake on my first lap, and then on my second lap we had a throttle issue so it really put us in a deep hole early,” Albright added.
Finishing out of a transfer in his heat race, Albright and company went to work before the ‘B Main as they were mired deep in the field to start the 12 lap affair.
Taking the green flag from the 17th starting position, Albright had a good start to the race as he was quickly able to pick up a few positions and inherit a couple as well, as he soon found himself up inside the Top-10.
Getting into ninth, trouble broke out in front of him as a car got out of shape. With nowhere to go, Albright got tangled up and it essentially brought his night to an end.
“As the night went on I felt more and more comfortable which has been the case in our races thus far, but with how the weather has played out its been hard to get into a rhythm,” Albright said. “I am hopeful now that we can start racing weekly and things can start to gel for me and we can get this car where it belongs.”
