PETERSEN MEDIA- Making a last-minute decision to do a little 360ci racing, Mitchell Faccinto and Tarlton Motorsports made an appearance at Ocean Speedway on Friday night and flirted with their second win of the season until a late flat tire dashed those hopes.
“We have had really good speed both times we have been to Ocean Speedway this year, and on Friday we were really good, but we cut a tire late in the feature,” Mitchell Faccinto said. “It was pretty unfortunate because we were running really well, but it has us that much more confident heading into this weekend’s Howard Kaeding Classic.”
With 28 cars on hand Friday, Faccinto got off to a quick start as he timed the Tarlton and Son Inc./EZ Haul/Executive Auto Sales No. 21 in fastest in qualifying time trials.
Needing to simply transfer through his heat to make the Dash, Faccinto took care of business as he finished fourth and punched his ticket into the six-car Dash. Lining up on the front row, Faccinto would finish in second and solidify a front row starting position for the impending 30-lap feature event.
As the feature event came to life, Faccinto got off to a great start in the famed Tarlton and Son Inc. No 21 entry. Powering his way to the early lead, Faccinto looked very good up front though would soon have company in the name of Justin Sanders.
On the 12th lap, Sanders would get the best of Faccinto in traffic and the Hanford, CA driver slipped back to third, before moving back into second on the 17th lap.
Under a yellow Sanders would lose air in his right rear tire, and with this in mind, Faccinto was able to dip low on the restart and reclaim the race lead. Out in front, Faccinto had the same fate on the next yellow, and was forced into the infield on the 23rd lap with a flat tire that ended his night.
“Thanks to the Tarlton family for letting us come out and get some more laps at Ocean Speedway before a big race this weekend,” Faccinto said. “Drew and Shane had us really good, and if we can be that good this weekend, I think we will be a contender both Friday and Saturday night.”
Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son Inc., EZ Haul, Executive Auto Sales, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, System 1 Ignition, Vortex Wings, and BG Lubricants for their support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 27, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 6, Top 10’s: 15.
