Bad Luck Lingers Around Dawson Hammes at Marysville Raceway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to Marysville Raceway on Saturday night for more weekly points action during the dog days of Summer, Dawson Hammes had one of those nights where things just didn’t quite go his way.

“We got off to a decent start in qualifying, but after that our night sort of went downhill as bad luck seemed to linger around us,” Hames said. “We were on the front row of our heat race but ran something over and cut a tire and had to go to the back, then in the feature we ended up overheating with too much mud packed around the radiator.”

Timing the Movement Brewing/STS Farming/All About Fire Protection backed No. 55D in eighth fastest, Hammes was set to line up on the front row of his heat race, alongside brother, Carson.

Lining up for the heat, Hammes ultimately ran over some debris that caused his right rear to go flat. Needing to go to the work area to make repairs, officials also made the call to go red to allow the sun to set, which gave Hammes ample time to make repairs.

Tagging the back of the pack for his heat, Hammes had a very strong car underneath him as he worked his way through the field. Working all the way back to fourth, Hammes moved into the feature event where he took the green flag from the ninth starting position.

Getting a good jump when the race went green, Hammes worked his way into sixth before contact from another car resulted in him spinning to a stop and relegated him to the back of the pack.

Still with plenty of laps left, Hammes got his elbows up and was able to make some headway through traffic. Mired in traffic, Hammes built up quite a bit of mud in front of the radiator, and it caused his motor temp to rise.

Watching his gauge for a few laps, Hammes made the decision to pull into the pit area a few laps shy of the finish.

“We were fast, “Hammes said. “We just don’t have anything to show for it unfortunately. I want to thank my parents for their continued help and support, as well as my brother Carson, Aly, and Dalton for all of their help on Saturday.”

Hammes Motorsports would like to thank Movement Brewing, STS Farming, All About Fire Protection, Summit Partners Burbank Agency, Harper Inc., and Ace Attorney Services for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 15, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 7, Top 10’s: 11
