Bayston Hard Charges To Third Place Finish at HK Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to California for two more nights of action with Tarlton Motorsports, Spencer Bayston and company would bounce back from a tough Friday night, and put on quite a show Saturday as he charged form 15th to finish third with the King of the West Series.

“Overall, we had a good weekend,” Spencer Bayston said. “On Friday we struggled to make speed in qualifying which seemed to kind of end our night before we even got started with the track being narrow.”

After issues in the semi on Friday night during 360ci competition ended his night early, Bayston was back in action on Saturday night with the 410ci engine bolted back into the frame rails.

Timing in 20th fastest in time trials, Bayston would look to start digging out of an early hole in his heat race as he finished second and punched his ticket directly into the feature event.

Lining up in the 15th starting position on the slick surface for the 30-lap feature event, Bayston would put on quite a charge around the ¼ mile bullring.

Making some big moves in the race’s first five laps, Bayston would crack the Top-10 as his charge was just getting underway. In a three car battle for eight for the next seven markers, Bayston would get the spot before taking over seventh on the 15th lap.

With still half the race ahead of him, the Lebanon, IN native would take advantage of some restarts as he cracked the Top-5 on the 17th lap.

Still not done, Bayston continued to slide up in front of the competition as he moved into fourth on the 19th lap, before a last lap pass saw him claim the final spot on the podium to cap quite the hard charge.

“Saturday night in the 410, I felt much more comfortable personally, and felt like we had really good speed,” Bayston added. “The track suited racing much better, and it allowed us to move around in our heat and make up some ground. Come feature time the track was in great shape, and Paul Baines and the guys gave me a great car to charge to the front. Cautions really fell our way, but I feel like we needed one more to battle for the lead, but to end up on the podium after starting that deep was really good and I was pleased for our team.”

Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support.
