Becker Bags Pair of Top-10’s in Hanford, CA

PETERSEN MEDIA- A busy weekend in Hanford, CA would see Sean Becker record a Top-10 in Friday night’s Cotton Classic with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, as well as a ninth-place finish with the King of the West Series in the first of two Twin-20 feature events.

“Friday night we ran an ASCS format, and I didn’t do a very good job in my qualifier and buried us in the feature event,” Sean Becker said. “We were, however, able to bounce back in the feature and work our way forward to a Top-10. Saturday night we were really good, but unfortunately there was an emergency in the pit area that forced the 360ci feature to get cancelled.”

Checking at Keller Auto Speedway for Sprint Car Challenge Tour action during the Cotton Classic, timing and scoring issues would result in series officials opting to use an ASCS/Chili Bowl format with pill draw setting heat line up, and points setting line ups for qualifiers and feature events.

Drawing the front row in his heat race, Becker would pick up a second-place finish aboard the M&M Structures backed No. 35 entry. The finish would then put the Roseville, CA driver in the second row of his qualifier.

Losing a few costly positions in the qualifier, Becker’s sixth place finish would not be enough to lock him into the feature event, and he would instead find himself on the pole of the semi.

Racing his way to the ‘B’ Main win, Becker would keep his night alive as he transferred into the feature event where he would take the green flag from the 17th starting position.

On the slick racing surface, Becker was able to keep the same pace that he set in the ‘B’, as he worked his way towards the Top-10. In a very paced feature event, Becker would rally to pick up eight positions in the 30-lap finale as he took the checkered flag in the ninth position.

Saturday night Becker would do double-duty as he would be in action with the King of the West Series for the Morrie Williams Tribute aboard the Vertullo Motorsports No. 83V machine, as well as with the Kings of Thunder 360’s back with Dan Monhoff.

While his night was going well in 360ci, action and he was slated to start the feature event from the pole, a medical emergency in the pit area would force officials to cancel the race just prior to going green.

In 410ci action, Becker would go out near the middle of time trials session and with the track starting to go away, he would end up 14th fastest in time trials.

Starting and finishing fifth in his heat race, Becker would line the Starr Property Management/Morrison Concrete/A.R.T. backed mount up in the 14th starting position for the first 20-lap feature event of the night.

Just as he did during Friday night’s 360ci feature, Becker would carve his way forward as he raced towards the Top-10.

With 20-laps clicking off in no time at all, Becker would turn in a hard-fought performance as he would finish ninth, and after the inversion find himself starting 12th in the second 20-lap feature event.

After a strong run in the opening race, Becker was unable to match his efforts in the second race though he would again battle for a Top-10. Unable to get back up there in the second feature, Becker capped his weekend off with a 12th place finish.

“I really have to thank the entire 83v team for working extremely hard all week to ensure that we could compete in this Morrie Williams Tribute event, Becker said. “We had some good speed and passed a lot of cars in the first feature, but I just wanst able to build the same momentum in the second feature. Overall it was still a really solid night in the 410ci with Dave and his team.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-51, Wins-1, Top 5’s- 11, Top-10’s- 26
