PETERSEN MEDIA- To say Sean Becker had an eventful weekend would simply be an understatement. Competing at the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday and Saturday night with his Menne Motorsports team, Becker would pick up a win on Friday night during a shortened feature event, before rallying to a fourth place finish on Saturday night during the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial feature event.
“Friday night was one of the most bizarre occasions I’ve ever been involved with in a sprint car race, and on Saturday night nothing seemed to go our way, but we were sure resilient,” Becker said.
Hitting the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night for a weekly point show, Becker would time the Mike’s Hard Lemonade/Cherry Street Mini Storage/Menne Ranch Hay Inc. No. 75 machine in fourth fastest of the 21 cars signed into the pit area.
Starting and finishing third in his heat race, Becker would be eligible for the redraw, as the Roseville, CA driver found himself with the three pill, and in the second row for the scheduled 25-lap feature event.
When the race came to life, Becker wasted no time moving forward, as he was quickly around Jason Statler to take command of the race. With the race hitting the five-lap mark, the power around the track, and the city, would go out, and thankfully all drivers were able to bring their machines safely to a stop. With the estimated time for power to return being several hours, the race wall called, and Becker was the race winner.
“We were all really fortunate nobody got into any trouble when the power went down as the field was wide open,” Becker said. “It was a strange feeling to get a win under those circumstances, but our car was on rails. I think lapped traffic was going to make it interesting, but I am very proud to get the Menne family, Cherry Street Mini Storage, and Mike’s Hard Lemonade our first win of the season.”
Back in action on Saturday night for the 25th Annual Dave Bradway Jr Memorial, Becker would get his night started off by timing his machine in 10th fastest before storming to the heat race win.
Making his way into the dash, ‘The Shark’ would charge from his seventh starting position to finish in the fourth spot, and line his entry up in the second row for the 40-lap feature event.
Working his way into the third spot at the drop of the green flag, Becker would close in on the lead duo of Mason Moore and Bud Kaeding as they battled ahead of him.
Following a lap six restart, Becker and the leaders would break away from the pack, as the action up front intensified. With Moore and Keading getting together, Becker was forced off the racing surface, and would slip back to the 10th spot, before getting up to the eighth position when the red flag flew on the 12th lap.
Working his way back into the top-five by taking advantage of some restarts, Becker would look to become a contender for the race win as the laps wound down, but an errant slide job attempt, would again send his machine off the racing surface. Able to gather his machine up quickly, Becker would charge his way to a very hard fought fourth place finish when the checkered flag waived.
“We just seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Becker explained. “It was pretty frustrating to have a fast car, and every time we were in position to battle for the lead we got ran off the track; once to avoid the leaders getting together, and once because of an errant slider attempt. For us to still battle back and get a fourth place finish with this series is a testament to how great this team isn.”
Becker would like to thank Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Cherry Street Mini Storage, Menne Ranch Hay Inc., Astro Titanium, Ponybracket.com, Shaver Racing Engines, FK Rod Ends, and K&N for their support in 2015.
