PETERSEN MEDIA- Sean Becker and his Menne Motorsports team had a strong final weekend of 2015 that saw ‘The Shark’ land on the podium during both nights of the 2015 Fall Nationals.
“Overall it was a great weekend, and a great way to end our 2015 season together,” Sean Becker said. “I feel so lucky to drive for Dan Menne and his family and work with Mike and Carol McCann with Cherry Street Mini Storage.”
Hitting the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night to open the 23rd Annual Fall Nationals, Becker timed the Mike’s Hard Lemonade/Cherry Street Mini Storage/Menne Ranch Hay Inc. No. 75 machine in second fastest in his qualifying flight.
From the second row of his heat race, the Roseville, CA driver was able to grab a few positions as he finished in the second spot, and earned a spot in the all-important Dash based on his qualifying effort.
Running second in the Dash, Becker would take advantage of Justin Sanders’ misfortune and take over the race lead and pick up the win, putting him on the pole for the 30-lap A Main event.
A racy Silver Dollar Speedway saw ‘The Shark’ jump out to the early lead as he took a liking to the bottom of the speedway, with Carson Macedo, and Tyler Walker in tow.
Continuing to lead the way, a late caution would bunch the field back up, and this would provide a thrilling finish for the fans that were on hand. Out front, Becker stayed committed to the bottom, but behind him Kyle Hirst was coming with a full head of steam while using the high side of the speedway.
With Hirst showing everyone but Becker the top, Becker would lose the lead to Hirst, before Carson Macedo also got by, but was still able to finish on the podium.
Saturday night, Becker timed the Astro Titanium/Ponybracket.com/Hunt’s Race World No. 75 machine in ninth fastest in his qualifying flight, just narrowly missing the heat race inversion
From the third row of his heat race, Becker was able to work his way forward to finish in the third spot, but would find himself in the 18th starting position for the 40-lap A Main event.
Though mired deep in the field, Becker lived up to his nickname, as “The Shark” quietly sliced and diced his way through the field essentially under the radar. In the closing laps, Becker became a factor to claim his fourth Fall Nationals crown.
Getting into the third spot in traffic, Becker closed in on race leader, Andy Forsberg, and second running, Shane Golobic, and brought the fans to their feet. On the last lap of the race, the lead duo got held up in traffic, and Becker took one final shot on the high-side of the speedway, and getting by Golobic for second, Becker came up just short of getting by Forsberg as he ended up second.
“I just needed more laps,” Becker said with a smile. “The track was really racy and it felt like different guys were really good out front at different times of the race. It was a great year for this team, and I really hope Mike’s Hard Lemonade and Buffalo Wild Wings enjoyed being a long for the ride because we all enjoyed having them on board, and really have to thank Brian Cannon for making it happen.”
Becker would like to thank Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Cherry Street Mini Storage, Menne Ranch Hay Inc., Astro Titanium, Ponybracket.com, Hunt’s Race World, Molecule, Shaver Racing Engines, FK Rod Ends, and K&N for their support in 2015.
