Becker Reunites with Vertullo Motorsports at HK Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting the call from Vertullo Motorsports to compete during HK Classic weekend in Watsonville, CA, Sean Becker would finish 11th in 360ci competition on Saturday night, and rebounded from an opening lap flat tire to finish 13th with the KWS/NARC Series on Saturday night.

“I really want to thank Dave and Debbie Vertullo for the opportunity to reunite with them and compete at the HK Classic,” Sean Becker said. “We were fortunate to win the event together in 2021, and it was fun to tea back up with them as well as Guy Morrison. Friday night I didn’t execute well enough in qualifying, and then we struggled to get anything going in the main.”

Friday night Becker got the weekend under way by timing the Starr Property Management/Morrison Concrete No. 83v 17th fastest, just narrowly missing the heat race inversion.

Lining up fifth in his heat race, Becker was able to hang on to the fifth and final transfer position into the feature event, though he would be mired in the back of the starting line up as he took the green flag from 16th.

From 16th, Becker searched around the Ocean Speedway trying to find a line to set him up to make a run forward. After slipping back to 20th as he tried a few things, Becker would settle into a little groove using the low line as he was able to work his way back into 15th at the race’s halfway point.

With the bottom staying really good as the race clicked laps off, Becker would crack the Top-10 on with 10-to-go. Running in 10th, Becker would get into a battle for the final position in the Top-10, and when the race ended he came home with an 11th place finish.

Shifting to 410ci action on Saturday night, Becker would endure a mechanical issue during time trials which hindered him and put him 26th on the speed chart out of the 38 cars that took time on this night.

With his work cut out for himself and Vertullo Motorsports team, ‘The Shark’ finished seventh in heat race action and found himself in the third row of the ‘B’.

In a hotly contested ‘B’, Becker had his elbows up as he chased after one of the four ‘golden tickets’ into the HK Classic feature event. Getting into third, Becker would hold his position and successfully earn the transfer.

Lining up 23rd in the feature event, a flat tire on the race’s attempted start forced Becker to the pit area to make a quick change before rejoining the field.

With the track offering two distinct lines over the course of the 30-lapper, Becker again was able to work his way forward just as he did on Friday night. Essentially coming from the 24th starting position, Becker began making his way towards the top-10 on the 13th lap as he moved into 19th, before taking over 17th on the 15th lap.

As laps clicked off feverishly, time was of the essence and Becker was making moves as quickly as he could. Working his way into 14th on the race’s 18th, lap, the following lap Becker moved into 13th.

Battling with Ryan Bernal for a few laps for track position, Becker would slip back to 14th briefly, before he was able to fight back and get 13th to cap his weekend off.

“After the mishap in time trials, we fought really hard to get into the show,” Becker said. “Despite getting a flat on the start of the race, we had a really fast car and that led us to a pretty respectable finish from 24th.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-17, Wins-0, Top 5’s- 5, Top-10’s- 8

ON TAP: Becker is slated to return to action at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night aboard the Monhoff Racing No. 35.
