Becker Thrills Crowd with Charge To Third at Placerville Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Sunday night at Placerville Speedway, Sean Becker and his Vertullo Motorsports team climbed out of an early hole and thrilled the crowd in the feature event as ‘The Shark’ charged from 17th to third.

“Sunday night we got off to a slow start, but our car got better each time we hit the track, and that’s a testament to this team working their butts off,” Sean Becker said. “The guys never gave up, we found speed, and it felt great to come through the field and land on the podium.”

With 32 cars on hand for the crowd favorite 4th of July event at Placerville Speedway, Becker would get off to a bit of a tough start as he timed the Morrison Concrete/STARR Property Management backed No. 83v entry in 22ndfastest.

Missing the heat race inversion, the Roseville, CA driver would finish fifth in his heat race which forced him into the 12-lap ‘B’ Main as he searched for one of just four transfer positions into the ‘A’.

Lining up seventh in the semi, Becker was able to move around very well on the slicked off ¼ mile bullring. Working his way into second, ‘The Shark’ would actually pressure Shane Golobic for the top spot before ultimately setting for second and keeping his night alive.

Taking the green flag from the 17th starting position in the 25-lap finale, Becker would bide his time as he ran 13thfor the first half of the race.

Using some restarts to his advantage, Becker would make his way into the Top-10 on the 17th lap before moving into eighth with just five laps left in the race.

Sitting in seventh on the race’s final restart, Becker would get a great jump that saw him work into fifth. With cars going up top on the race’s final lap, Becker would stick the bottom and pick up two more positions as he took the checkered flag with a third place finish.

“Really want to thank the Vertullo team for their continued hard work,” Becker said. “It has been an up and down year for us, but the guys keep working hard.”

Saturday night, Becker checked in at the Stockton Dirt Track for a night of Sprint Car Challenge Tour action aboard the Monhoff Racing No. 35 entry.

Timing in fifth fastest in his qualifying group on this night, Becker would pick up the fifth at final transfer spot into the 30-lap feature event.

Taking the green flag from the 19th starting position on a freshly groomed surface, Becker would slowly work his way forward. With the track extremely fast in the opening stages of the event, Becker would creep his way towards the Top-10.

Late in the race the track would start to slick off, and as Becker looked to make a move on a late restart, but it would result him losing a few spots as he would slip back to 16th.

“Stockton was a struggle all night long it seemed,” Becker said. “At one point in the feature event we were in position to salvage a respectable finish, but I tried something on a late restart and lost several spots that we weren’t able to get back.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-27, Wins-0, Top 5’s- 7, Top-10’s- 13
