Bernal Pleased With First Winged Trophy Cup

PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking part in his first winged Trophy Cup, Ryan Bernal was pleased with how his Mike Phulps Motorsports team performed all week as they ended up finishing 14th in the overall point standings.
“I thought we made huge gains this week with the winged car for sure,” Bernal said. “We were really good every time we hit the track, and that is huge at Trophy Cup.”
Weather would throw a wrench into this years event, and both preliminary nights would take place on Friday.
Getting upside-down during the ‘Thursday’ feature event, Bernal would bounce back and finish 12th during the Friday night portion of the program.
Coming into Saturday night sitting 17th in the point standings, the Hollister, CA driver worked his way forward from his third row starting position in his heat race to finish second, and earn valuable points heading into the 50-lap feature event.
Sitting 12th in the standings heading into the feature, Bernal lined the Metal Works/Keizer Wheels/DMI backed No. 56 machine up in the seventh row of the star-studded feature event.
On an extremely slick, and racy, Thunderbowl Raceway, Bernal got off to a slow start in the early goings of the feature event, as he felt his machine out. Back in the 16th spot just past the race’s halfway point, Bernal was still in battle with some serious star power including Rico Abreu and Jonathan Allard.
Finding himself battling with Jason Meyers, Allard, and Cory Eliason in the race’s closing laps, Bernal would close his night out with a 13th place finish, and 14th place finish in the overall standings.
“There was no slouches in the feature event, and still figuring the winged stuff out, it was nice to race with some of the top drivers around,” Bernal said. “I was happy with how we did, and am looking forward to doing it again.”
Bernal and the Mike Phulps Motorsports team would like to thank Keizer Wheels, DMI, S&S Automotive, King Racing Products, Metal Works, Hoosier Racing Tires, Core Power, ART Chassis, Tri-L Mandarin Ranch, Tel-Tac, Willwood, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Permatex, Alan Kaiser Construction, Outlaw Graphics, BR Motorsports, FK Rod Ends, STIDA, Rockwell Security, ButlerBuilt, GoScope, 4 Alarm Promotions, and Dean Dealy Motorsports for their support during the 2014 season.
2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-45, Wins-10, Top 5’s-23, Top 10’s-28.
ON TAP: Bernal and his Mike Phulps team return to action on Saturday night as they will challenge the stars and cars of the King of the West Series during the Cotton Classic at the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA.
