Bernal Second at Faria Memorial

PETERSEN MEDIA- Ryan Bernal and his Mike Phulps Motorsports team were in action at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA with both the King of the West Series, and the USAC West Coast 360’s, and although mechanical troubled their winged efforts, Bernal was able to hang to a second place finish during the USAC feature.
“Unfortunately we had some mechanical trouble in the winged car that caused us to scratch from the event, and we were able to overcome a broken torsion stop in the USAC race to finish second,” Bernal said.
With 19 cars on hand, Bernal would time the Tri-L Mandarin Ranch/King Racing Products/Keizer Wheels backed No. 56 machine in eighth fastest, putting him in the second row of the second heat race.
Heat race action would see Bernal work into the second spot, and though he battled for the top spot in a thrilling race, a second place finish would move him into the feature event, where he gridded the field from the fourth row.
On a hooked up Thunderbowl Raceway, Bernal was quick to navigate him machine forward, as he grabbed the lead from Tony Guardino on the 10th lap, and looked to be in control of the race.
Leading the next five laps, Bernal would feel pressure from Danny Faria, and as a torsion stop broke on the 15th lap, Bernal would lose the lead to Faria, as he began fighting his machine. With the retainer keeping the stop in place, and the sway bar holding the front-end up, Bernal had a handful over the last half of the race.
Even with major suspension issues, Bernal was able to hang on and cross the finish line with a second place finish.
“I hate that we had some bad luck, but I have to admit it is pretty awesome to see Danny Faria win this race that honors his brothers,” Bernal added. “I have to thank my guys for all of their hard work Saturday night.”
Bernal and the Mike Phulps Motorsports team would like to thank Keizer Wheels, DMI, S&S Automotive, King Racing Products, Metal Works, Hoosier Racing Tires, Core Power, ART Chassis, Tri-L Mandarin Ranch, Tel-Tac, Willwood, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Permatex, Alan Kaiser Construction, Outlaw Graphics, BR Motorsports, FK Rod Ends, STIDA, Rockwell Security, ButlerBuilt, GoScope, 4 Alarm Promotions, and Dean Dealy Motorsports for their support during the 2014 season.
2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-19, Wins-6, Top 5’s-9, Top 10’s-11.
